The World Is Sound

100th Post + GOONDA competition!

As it’s my 100th post I thought what better way to celebrate than with a competition!

My good friends at High Chai Recordings NYC – the label that brought us Revolution Rising and Nu asian soundZ, have given me 4 copies of GOONDA: Third World Radio as prizes!

So who are GOONDA?

NYC-based production / remixer duo, who have forged a partnership based on a mutual love for music, (DK aka) Bollygirl and Cenzo are GOONDA – created with one goal in mind: good music… no borders… no boundaries.

DK aka Bollygirl

Mumbai born and New York-based producer/DJ/voxist/visualist  who redefines and refines the East Coast Bollygirl aesthetic. Stealthily residing on dex @ AVAAZ (the monthly event), heading up High Chai Records and producing tracks at the lab with the GOONDA. DK also a classical Hindi film fanatic has Filmi influences resonating in her music in subtle ways. She continues to crash cultural and musical barriers, defying genres and challenge the listener via her continued efforts of spreading conscious clubbing.

Cenzo

Vincent Schimel, AKA ‘Cenzo, produces urban hard-edged grooves (breaks, drum n bass , chill, dub, rock and hip-hop). Classically-trained as a pianist and singer, he began performing in grade school, but got noticed on MTV after his college funk-rock band Streetwave swept the first prize on the original MTV Basement Tapes contest (with Frank Zappa hosting).

GOONDA Third World Radio is a two disc album that houses an underlying sonic foundation laid by DK and Cenzo. Listen to how they fabricate and fashion a whole host of indigenous sounds with MCs Napoleon Solo (Guasto/Jazz Passengers), Daddy Frank (Surya Dub), Todd Michaelsen (My Pet Dragon/Karsh Kale) and DK (Ming+FS) making a feature on disc one.

Disc two however is a different story altogether. It’s serves as a space for opening their compositions up to friends who offering us stellar global remixes with twists and turns by Chicago’s RadioHiro, UK’s Shiva Soundsystem (BBC), Delhis Jayant, Dhruva G + Sharmaji (Sub Swara), NYC’s own b-boy Ming and more.
