1971, the year when George Harrison and Ravi Shankar, with the help of some of his fabulous friends staged two benefit shows titled ‘The Concert for Bangladesh’ and this year August 1st marked its 40th anniversary.

The benefit concert included performances from co-organiser Ravi Shankar,  Bob Dylan, Ringo Starr, Billy Preston, Leon Russell, Eric Clapton and Harrison himself. Held at Madison Square Garden, they played to around 40,000 people raising a total of $243,418.51 to help with relief in Bangladesh suffering from famine, war and flood in.

This week saw the digital release of the Grammy Award-winning album immortalising the two 1971 shows. The digital release is available exclusively at iTunes with Harrison’s studio single Bangla Desh as a bonus track. All proceeds of this album will be going towards the George Harrison Fund for UNICEF (after tax).
