1971, the year when George Harrison and Ravi Shankar, with the help of some of his fabulous friends staged two benefit shows titled ‘The Concert for Bangladesh’ and this year August 1^st marked its 40^th anniversary.

The benefit concert included performances from co-organiser Ravi Shankar,  Bob Dylan, Ringo Starr, Billy Preston, Leon Russell, Eric Clapton and Harrison himself. Held at Madison Square Garden, they played to around 40,000 people raising a total of $243,418.51 to help with relief in Bangladesh suffering from famine, war and flood in.

This week saw the digital release of the Grammy Award-winning album immortalising the two 1971 shows. The digital release is available exclusively at iTunes with Harrison’s studio single Bangla Desh as a bonus track. All proceeds of this album will be going towards the George Harrison Fund for UNICEF (after tax).
